Updates to Level 9 & 10 Jazz
Level 9 Jazz has had a few minor syllabus changes (Elevation Step & Combination 9) to accommodate the new updated music. We have also replaced the Jazz Funk with a more updated Hip Hop exercise choreographed by Caitlin Wheeler.
Level 10 Jazz has also seen the introduction of new music for the Adagio exercise and the existing Hip Pop exercise has had a name change to Jazz Funk. A new updated Hip Hop exercise has been added (also choreographed by Caitlin Wheeler. Exam candidates in Level 10 only, are now allowed to change shoes to a Hip Hop / Skate / Jazz Boot for this Hip Hop exercise, to allow for a more authentic style. Both of these new Hip Hop exercises will be compulsory for 2011.
Anyone wishing to get amended update notes for Level 9 Jazz or copies of both the Level 9 & 10 Hip Hop exercises can contact head office and the relevant pages will be emailed out to you. It is strongly recommended that the Hip Hop exercises are taught in conjunction with the new DVDs for Level 9 & 10, as it is difficult to interpret the style through the written notes only.

Masterclasses
Thank you to the many schools and members who attended our annual Masterclasses in May & June. It is always a great opportunity for the students to receive the feedback the Examiners give them. The days were busy but ran very smoothly and we hope your students benefited from this day.
|
Teaching Certificate Course
Participants of the Teaching Certificate Course please note that exams have been set for Saturday 2nd October and Sunday 3rd October 2010, and Sunday 6th March 2011. Please advise Head Office which exam session your students plan on attending.
In response to member feedback and past participation trends, as of 2010 it has been decided to offer the Teaching Certificate Course every second year, meaning the next course will be held in April 2012.

Exam Dance Reminder
Teachers are reminded to keep the content and music of the exam dance movements relevant to the students age. Some movements sourced from video clips and similar media may not be appropriate for inclusion in their routines.
|
Performing Arts Workshop
A disappointing aspect of our events calendar this year was the cancellation of the Performing Arts Workshop due to insufficient support. This day provides a great opportunity for students to learn new styles or extend themselves with previously tried classes. The SFD Committee will endeavour to alter the timing of the workshop for 2011 which will hopefully enable increased participation.

Combined Schools Concert
A fun filled evening was had by everyone who attended and we thank all schools who nominated such wonderful dances to help make our evening a great success. A special thank you as well to Sunraysia Dance Academy who made the journey from Mildura and Dance Power Studios who travelled from New South Wales!
Outstanding Achievement Award
A special part of the evening during the Combined Schools Concert was the announcement of the Outstanding Achievement Award recipient for 2009 – congratulations to Sarah Lauterstein from Beau-Rock Ballet School.

SFD Committee 2010
HAVE YOU CONSIDERED JOINING THE SFD COMMITTEE?
A very important part of the future of Southern Federation of Dance is the commitment and enthusiasm by members to join the Committee of Management. Are you able to contribute one day a month to attend a meeting and assist at the various events throughout the year because we would love to see some new faces. The following points provide you with an idea of what to expect:
• The minimum term on the Committee is for a period of 12 months.
• You are required to attend regular meetings (approx. 4-6 weeks apart) at pre-arranged destinations during business hours. Meeting dates will be set for 12 months at the first meeting after the AGM – to help you with planning.
• You are expected to volunteer your services to assist with the running of major SFD events like the Competitions (General and Choreographic), Combined Schools Concert, Teaching Certificate Exam days, Inservices, Masterclasses, fundraising days etc, when available.
Please consider the valuable input you could make to supporting Southern Federation of Dance through your opinion and ideas. This is the perfect way to make your voice heard!!! Please contact Head Office for a nomination form if you would like to take up this opportunity.

Please refer to your member manual for entry forms and rules/codes. Please keep encouraging your students to work on their dances - solos, duos, trios and troupes, in all styles.
