The Southern Federation of Dance Teaching Certificate Course is highly comprehensive and has proven to be most successful in training competent and responsible dance teachers with the latest dance training methods. The course is run by SFD examiners and is broken down into 3 days of prior online learning, followed by 2.5 days of face-to-face live lectures. The course is generally run during the Term 1 holidays, with the exact dates advised bi-annually.

The Teaching Certificate Course can be taken in any of the three styles – Jazz, Tap and Classical. Candidates choose to study one of these styles at a time. The course incorporates the learning of either Jazz, Tap or Classical Levels 1­ to 5. Candidates must successfully complete their Teaching Certificate examination which consists of two parts – practical and written components.

The course covers practical and theoretical aspects of dance such as:

  • teaching methodology
  • common faults and their prevention
  • major muscle groups
  • body alignment/posture
  • stretching
